A Love Letter to the Unconventional: Portraits of Berlin’s Nerds & Geeks (AT)

„A Love Letter to the Unconventional“ rückt Menschen und ihre Leidenschaften in den Fokus. Nerds, die oft akademisch orientiert sind, und Geeks, die sich leidenschaftlich für Hobbys und Popkultur begeistern, teilen eine Besonderheit: Ihre unerschütterliche Hingabe für etwas. Oft werden diese Menschen aufgrund ihrer Interessen ausgegrenzt oder als „anders“ angesehen.

Das Projekt soll die Vielfalt der Szene in Berlin zeigen, von elektronischen Musikinstrumenten bis hin zu Horror. Jede Leidenschaft ist einzigartig, doch alle porträtierten Menschen haben eines gemeinsam: den Stolz auf das, was sie tun.

Ziel des Projekts ist es, Empathie und Verständnis zu fördern und die Menschen dazu anzuregen, sich mit der eigenen Leidenschaft auseinanderzusetzen. „A Love Letter to the Unconventional“ setzt ein Zeichen für die Sichtbarkeit einer oft missverstandenen und unterschätzten Gruppe, und fordert uns alle auf, die Vielfalt menschlicher Interessen zu schätzen.

Das Projekt wird im Rahmen der Klasse Mahler an der Ostkreuzschule umgesetzt.

Wie läuft die Teilnahme ab?
Du meldest dich bei mir und wir vereinbaren einen Kennenlerntermin, bei dem ich dir auch einige Beispielbilder zeige. Anschließend vereinbaren wir einen Fototermin.

Welche Leidenschaften sind geeignet?
Prinzipiell erstmal alles was sich gut fotografieren lässt, selbst leidenschaftlich erstellte Sammlungen.

„A Love Letter to the Unconventional“ focuses on people and their passions. Nerds, who are often academically oriented, and geeks, who are passionate about hobbies and pop culture, share one thing in common: their unwavering dedication to something. These people are often marginalized or seen as „different“ because of their interests.

The project aims to show the diversity of the scene in Berlin, from electronic musical instruments to horror. Each passion is unique, but all the people portrayed have one thing in common: pride in what they do.

The aim of the project is to promote empathy and understanding and to encourage people to come to terms with their own passion. „A Love Letter to the Unconventional“ sets an example for the visibility of an often misunderstood and underestimated group, and challenges us all to appreciate the diversity of human interests.

The project will be realized as part of the Mahler class at the Ostkreuzschule.

How does participation work?
You get in touch with me and we arrange an appointment to get to know each other, during which I will also show you some sample pictures. We will then arrange a photo session.

Which passions are suitable?
In principle, anything that can be photographed well, even passionately created collections.
