A Lover Letter to the Unconventional
(Ein Liebesbrief an besondere Menschen)

In meinem Projekt „A Lover Letter to the Unconventional“ geht es um Menschen und Dinge, die ihnen sehr wichtig sind.

Manche Menschen lieben Wissenschaft.
Andere sammeln Sachen.
Wieder andere mögen Filme, Serien, Figuren oder berühmte Menschen.

Alle diese Menschen haben eines gemeinsam:
Sie lieben diese Dinge sehr.
Manche Menschen finden das ungewöhnlich. Sie sagen: „Das ist anders.“

Ich möchte zeigen, wie unterschiedlich Menschen Sachen lieben können.
Jede Geschichte ist besonders.
Aber alle haben etwas gemeinsam:
Sie freuen sich über das, was sie mögen, und sind stolz darauf.

Ich habe gemerkt, dass solche Menschen nicht so oft vorkommen.
Deshalb habe ich auch Fotos von mir selbst gemacht.
Ich wollte zeigen: Ich gehöre auch dazu.

Die Treffen mit den anderen Menschen waren für mich besonders.
Ich habe mich verstanden und wohlgefühlt.
Besonders, wenn ich erzählt habe, dass ich seit 2011 die Träume von Menschen sammle, die ich vorher oft gar nicht kannte, und sie an ihren Schlafplätzen fotografiere.
Das ist das, was ich am liebsten mache.

Dieses Projekt lädt ein:
Andere Menschen zu verstehen.
Und über das eigene Lieblingsthema nachzudenken.

Am Ende durften alle Menschen ihre Fotos so machen, wie es zu ihren Lieblingssachen passt.
Die Idee dafür kam mir, als ich meine Bücher zu der Serie Buffy angeschaut habe.
Ich schaue diese Serie seit über 20 Jahren immer wieder.

Neben den Fotos habe ich kleine Dinge gezeigt, die mir bei den Menschen aufgefallen sind.
Diese Dinge gehören zu ihnen und machen sie besonders.

(A love letter to special people)

My project “A Lover Letter to the Unconventional” is about people and the things that are very important to them.

Some people love science.
Others collect things.
Still others like movies, TV series, characters, or famous people.

All these people have one thing in common:
they love these things very much.
Some people find that unusual.
They say, “That’s different.”

I want to show how differently people can love things.
Every story is special.
But they all have something in common:
they enjoy what they like and are proud of it.

I noticed that people like this are not that common.
That’s why I took a photo of myself. I wanted to show that I belong too.

The meetings with the other people were special for me.
I felt understood and comfortable.
Especially when I told them that since 2011, I have been collecting the dreams of people I often didn’t know before and photographing them in their sleeping places.
That’s what I love to do most.

This project invites you to understand other people and think about your own favorite topic.

In the end, everyone was allowed to take their photos in a way that suited their favorite things.
The idea for this came to me when I was looking at my books on the Buffy series.
I’ve been watching this series on and off for over 20 years.

In addition to the photos, I showed little things that caught my attention about the people.
These things belong to them and make them special.
